Posture Alignment Therapy is a series of positions and exercises that retrain your muscles in order to put your bones and joints back into their intended design/alignment. The alignment routines are very specific to each individual. This allows your body to move as it is designed to move - without pain and limitation!!

Aging, a particular activity or sport, have become acceptable reasons for pain in our bodies; it is not our age or the activity - it is the body we are bringing to these activities. Due to technological advancement, we move less now than ever. Years of inactivity (computers, TV, driving, video games) will produce dysfunction in our joints. Our body’s functional design is built for movement. This method is about retraining your muscles to correct posture deviations. Muscular weakness, skeletal misalignment, and structural imbalances generally precede the onset of pain and discomfort. Our bodies want to help us, so when there are postural dysfunctions our bodies will figure out another way to move.

When your posture is compromised, different muscles are being recruited to help you to move the bones – to do whatever task you are asking your body to perform; this is compensation. To simplify, you are now having the wrong muscles moving your bones inefficiently and incorrectly. Bones do what the muscles tell them to do. The muscles that should be working are turned off, and the muscles that should not be working are turned on.

All of the following are posture deviations (there are many):

Your body will compensate for only so long before injury or chronic pain will occur. For example, the cartilage gets worn down on one side of a joint and arthritis sets in. Your shoulders are rounded forward so the shoulder blade muscles do not recruit properly and the rotator cuff takes on work it should not be doing. Your feet are turned out - which means your hip rotators are constantly in contraction while your gait muscles are slack; as a result, your feet may be flat and rigid. Your knee caps point outward or inward (instead of straight), or in different directions from one another. The knee joint is now in a rotated position and multiple knee problems will occur with this posture deviation. You may have one hip or a shoulder higher than another. Hence, one side of your body is doing one thing to move while the other side is doing something totally different. These are all correctable dysfunctions. The right and left sides of your body need to be symmetrical.

Here is a picture of what our body's are designed to look like:

In our functional design, we can move efficiently and freely at any age!!! With very few exceptions (serious injuries, born with skeletal deviations), our limited-motion lifestyle is the cause of all the compensation and postural deviations. THE LESS WE MOVE, THE LESS WE CAN MOVE!! Muscles adapt quickly, and “lack of use” is the body’s number one enemy and instigator of injury and chronic pain. This “motion restriction” violates the functional design of the body. Even after a knee or hip replacement, if proper posture is not restored, compensation will re-establish itself causing, again, chronic pain and injury. Function dictates form…without the muscles functioning, the skeletal form is compromised. Posture Alignment Therapy is your treasure chest for restoring proper function and alignment! You will move, function, and feel better – GUARANTEED! Invest – you and your body are worth the time and energy!!!!!
